One of the biggest indie game showcases of the year, Day Of The Devs, just premiered and with it we saw a bunch of new information regarding previously announced titles and brand new reveals. This Day Of The Devs is the tenth anniversary of the event and its the first ever collaboration with the game awards. From 2d side scrollers, to remasters of iconic indie games there was a plethora of excitement surrounding the event and its reminder of the importance of indie gaming. Militisioner Developed by TallBoys
Described as a first person immersive run away simulator, it follows a man who is falsely accused and must evade the capture of a giant policeman while remaining on his good side. The player must traverse through a ghost town to find ways to escape the policeman’s sight. The release date is still TBD but the game looks to be one of the most unusual and unsettling titles to ever be conceptualized.
World Premiere of Nirvana Noir by Feral Cat Den
Nirvana noir is set in a cosmic noir city stylized city that follows a double life of a detective. The game features detective based dialogue options to follow leads and hunt for clues in a the beautiful jazzy and noir soaked world. This will be a sequel and follow up to the studios previous work Genesis Noir.
Thank Goodness You’re Here by Coal Supper
Described as a comedy slapformer, this 2d title features adorable artwork that envelopes the whole world around it. You can explore and meet a plethora of townsfolk who sport all sorts of British accents.
Flock by Hollow Ponds
One of the most beautiful and serene titles showcased. You can explore vast landscapes from a large bird and gather more animals and critters to add to your Flock. You can play solo or with a friend in this animal gathering game that is sure to create is relaxing experience. Flock releases spring of 2024
World Premiere: Kind Words 2 by Pop Cannibal
A sequel about expressing your true feelings. Kinds Words 2 takes place in a Lofi city that is very comforting. It is described as a pure social media in which players can write letters of kindness and motivation to other players in the world. You can write poetry, short stories, letters, and rhymes to all your friends and even make new ones.
Hermit And Pig by Heavy Lunch Studio
A turn-based adventure game featuring a man and his truffle pig. These two characters love their solitude and are very much introverts. The game is inspired by Earthbound Pokemon and Paper Mario. Some of the “fights” in the game are literally conversations with people and trying to avoid being awkward, avoid cringe damage!
Dome King Cabbage by Cobysoft Co
Described as a visual novel, not exactly a game. It’s set in a monster-collecting RPG, and is a psychedelic journey that is almost indescribable.
Ultros by Hadoque
A Metroidvania from the artist that aided in the vision of Hotline Miami. A otherworldly sci fi 2d side-scrolling adventure that is seemingly eldritch inspired in which the player is seeking plants and their effects from other planets. The title seems to be inspired by Dead Cells and has a heavy emphasis on exploration as well as combat. Ultros drops February 13th.
World Premiere of Loose Leaf by Kitfox games
A tea brewing witch simulator that is very akin to a more complex cooking game. You can unlock new recipes, ingredients, and tools as you progress and gain fame as a grand Witch who is known for her otherworldly tea. This title is sure to test your patience as you master the art of brewing and do the occasional tarot card reading for your customers.
Holstin by Sonka
This Polish development team has crafted an incredibly unique psychological survival horror game set in a Polish town in the 90’s. It is a top-down title that allows you to switch to a third-person over-the-shoulder camera when in combat. The unsettling visuals of this strange force enveloping the town is some of the greatest pixel art ever created. It promises a semi-open world with lots of bosses and a complex story.
Oddada by Sven Ahlgrimm and Mathilde Hoffman
This is a very unique music creator engine/game. It is a level based title in which players can learn to use new instruments and even craft their own. You can save the music that you have created on a ton of virtual cassettes. It is described as a bland between music and machine.
CryptMaster by Paul Hart and Lee Williams
This dungeon-crawling puzzle role-playing game is filled to the brim with spooky visuals. It is a spelling game in which the player must spell words correctly to progress through the dungeons while aiding the cryptmaster in becoming more powerful. Meet a variety of weird and crazy characters that will aid you in your quest in 2024.
World Premiere of Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story by Digital Eclipse
This team is continuing their model of creating playable documentaries with Llamasoft in celebration of Jeff Minter, one of the most influential minds in videogame history. There will be a detailed view of Minter’s career and all of the titles he created will be playable in this interactive documentary. All 42 games.
Drag Her by Fighting Chance Games
A fighting game about drag queens that features real-life drag performers immortalized in videogame form. It is a 2d side-scrolling fighting game full of cinematic specials, 2v2 mode, arcade mode, assist characters, and much more. It is being described as “Fundamentally stupid to watch”.
Braid Anniversary Edition by Thekla
This is a remaster of the classic indie game that really showed the world the power and potential of video games being true art. This is coming is April 2024 with 4k visual upgrades all it has been re-hand painted. Alongside remastering the full game, there will be additional puzzles to solve and 15 hours of interviews about the development.
Open Roads by Open Roads team
A game about the connection between mother and daughter. The two characters embark on a road trip to uncover family secrets and to reveal the truths of life. Seems to be a very deep and beautiful look into the complexity of the relationship between a mother and her daughter.
Resistor by Long Way Home
This narrative-driven RPG racing title features a deeply customizable main protagonist. The racing looks incredibly thrilling, as you race to get you and your family out of the wastelands of the future into the luxury of the city. Exploration around the wasteland will be available to do so in foot and by car.
Home Safety Hotline by Night Signal Entertainment
This analog horrors-inspired text-based horror game was one of the creepiest and most unsettling parts of the showcase. You play as a phone operator answering calls from concerned homeowners. They will inquire about a plethora of odd things happening and you will do your best to aid them. Includes a variety of accessibility options to disable certain phobias the player might have beforehand.
Janet Demornay Is A Slum Lord And A Witch by Fuzzy Ghost
A horror game about the scariest thing in the world, renting. This third and first-person game seems to be inspired by the likes of Resident Evil with its fixed camera angles. You must tend to your house as your landlord continues her strange behavior as a witch. This title is very puzzle-heavy as you try to unravel the secrets of your landlord.
World Premiere: The Mermaids Tongue by SFB games
This point-and-click detective series returns as a sequel to the Detective Grimoire series. It takes place in an emerged submarine that has marooned in an island and is heavily influenced by the works of H.P Lovecraft. Explore the depths and its secrets in this mind-bending detective story.
