One of the most integral people associated with the EA Star Wars franchise is leaving the company. Initially revealed by Bloomberg, and then confirmed by EA themselves, the Star Wars Jedi Director Stig Asmussen has departed both the studio and the company. EA released a statement through Bloomberg saying that he decided to leave in order to “pursue other adventures.” EA also advised that other “Veteran Respawn leaders” will be stepping into Asmussen’s place in order to fill the void of his departure.

Asmussen, as we already mentioned, was the director for both of Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Both titles were critically acclaimed and brought about a huge resurgence for the franchise in the video game industry. Prior to this, Asmussen worked mainly at Santa Monica Studio, the developer of the highly popular God of War franchise. Asmussen was the main Director for 2010’s God of War III, which was one of the most popular titles on the PlayStation 3 when it launched.
With Asmussen no longer having a major presence at Respawn, the future of the Star Wars Jedi series is now uncertain. While EA will continue to push forward with new entries, it will still be interesting to see what changes are brought about without Asmussen’s influence over the IP. The sequel to Survivor is also apparently already in development, which we reported last Summer. It’s unknown if Asmussen had any initial say in this third entry, but either way, he won’t be part of the end product.
