Until recently, CD Projekt Red hadn’t announced any news about the Phantom Liberty DLC expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Now, the Polish developer has revealed new features that will come with Phantom Liberty.
During Gamescom 2023 Opening Night on Tuesday, CD Projekt Red Gameplay Designer Yuliia Pryimak appeared to discuss the debut of Phantom Liberty‘s “New Ways to Play” trailer, which presented new gameplay features apart of the expansion and a free Update 2.0. The latter will be released alongside Phantom Liberty and incorporate new features into the base game like a redesigned skill tree, an overhauled perks system, and a revamped police mechanic.
The new Relic skill tree provides players with a variety of potent abilities they can configure unique builds, which allows them to master different playstyles. Update 2.0. will also contain an altered perks system offering players brand-new perks that present more impactful gameplay options as well as thrilling, original ways to defeat enemies. Further, the update will refine enemy AI in combat so fights can be more dynamic and intuitive.
CD Projekt Red revamped other AI as well, particularly the police in Cyberpunk 2077. The developers integrated more realistic and engaging ways for NCPD to react to player actions, such as setting up roadblocks, attempting to ram players off the road, and many others. They also upgraded Cyberpunk 2077‘s driving mechanics, most notably new actions during vehicular combat. Players can now shoot while driving and quickhack enemy vehicles from cars and motorbikes.
Phantom Liberty follows cyber-enhanced mercenary V as he navigates a world of spies and political intrigue to rescue the NUS President. Players will journey to Dogtown, a densely packed location with endless dynamic events and missions, action-packed gigs, new clothing items, weapons, cyberware, and much more. Phantom Liberty contains a new cast of characters including renowned actor Idris Elba portraying sleeper agent Solomon Reed.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will launch on September 26th for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC alongside Update 2.0.
