BattleBit Remastered is still at the top of the Steam’s ‘Best Sellers Catagory’ after 3 weeks of its initial release, only being beaten by Stalwart’s Counter Striker: Global Offensive
BattleBit Remastered, according to its Steam page, is a low-poly, massive multiplayer shooter that supports 254 players on each team, with playable vehicles and most maps having destructable enviroments. the game was created by three developers, SgtOkiDoki, Vilaskis, TheLiquidHorse. BattleBit Remastered aims for “chaotic, massively multiplayer online first-person shooter experience.” It offers an enhanced netcode, proximity chat for communication with your team and the enemy, large weapon options at 45+ different weapons and customization, and a class system with level progression.
This little game, and I mean little since BattleBit Remastered comes in a 2 Gigabytes which is small compared to SSD and HDD hogs like Call of Duty, was developed for around 7 years.
According to a RockPaperShotgun article, one of the developers SgtOkiDoki, explained at the beginning of development, they were running weekend playtests for maps and weapons. It wasn’t around 2018-2019, the developers decided on the low poly texture style, which along with being light on hardware and textures not being as complicated, gave the player a false sense of its gameplay, which at that point, performed like Squad or Arma.
It wouldn’t be until 2020 that the game saw over 100 players and up until June 2023, the game exploded in popularity, selling nearly 3 million copies in since it released 3 weeks ago, topping off at an all-time high of 87,323 players on its first week. As of writing this, the game sits now at 64,820. The reception so far has been overall pretty positive, with many players leaving reviews, comparing it to modern Triple-A and old Battlefield titles. One user, Alvazia says “Gameplay > Graphics. Priorities is important! other companies should note this.” Another user, San7ana took a shot at EA/DICE saying, “3 devs show EA/DICE how to make a good game!”
You can purchase BattleBit Remastered for $15 on Steam.
