The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 10 million units worldwide in the first three days since its release, quickly becoming the fastest-selling game in the Zelda franchise. Additionally, it has become the fastest-selling game on the Nintendo Switch and in the Americas, selling over 4 million copies in the territory. According to the press release, in the 35 years since the start of the Zelda franchise, the series has now sold over 130 million units worldwide as of March 2023.
Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Communications Devon Pritchard, expressed his gratitude towards fans for the “record-breaking launch” and excitement at seeing more creations fans have made using the game’s new features.
“…We’re grateful for all of our fans who’ve shown their passion for The Legend of Zelda over the years,” said Pritchard. “and these sales numbers for the latest installment continue to show the strong momentum for both the franchise and Nintendo Switch this year.”
Doug Bowser commented on the news through Twitter, expressing his thanks thanking and hoping fans will continue to enjoy their “imagination-fueled adventures through Hyrule.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom thrusts players into familiar and unfamiliar territories as they explore the skies above the sprawling landscape of Hyrule. Players will navigate through new destinations and dangers using Link’s new abilities as they face old and new malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is currently available on the Nintendo eShop, the My Nintendo Store and other select retailers at $69.99. A Tears of the Kingdom-themed Nintendo Switch OLED Model system is also available for $359.99 and its two accessories, a $74.99 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and $24.99 Nintendo Switch carrying case are also available to purchase.
