Over the last fourteen months since the release of Ghostwire: Tokyo, the game has performed very well, getting a 78 on Metacritic, 87 user score and recently, the Ghostwire: Tokyo Twitter account announced that the game has reached over 4 million players since its initial release. The game has also earned over $16 million in gross revenue on Steam alone according to vginsights, which further demonstrates the level of success the game has gotten since it came out early last year.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks on March 24, 2022. It has also recently gotten an update in the form of free DLC called “The Spider’s Thread,” that came out on April 12th of this year. With the consistent updates coming to the game, it makes sense that the interest in the game has continued and this player milestone is a representation of that.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is an action game where the player uses a variety of abilities to destroy ghosts that have overrun Tokyo. As far as the story goes, Steam goes in detail about that by saying:
Tokyo is overrun by deadly supernatural forces as a dangerous occultist causes the city’s population to vanish in an instant. Join forces with a powerful spectral entity on their quest for vengeance and master a powerful arsenal of abilities to unravel the dark truth behind the disappearance as you FACE THE UNKNOWN in Ghostwire: Tokyo.
It will be interesting to see what comes next for the game, as they only recently released their first wave of DLC. It may be some time before more content comes out for the game, though the game seems to be thriving for the time being as it is. Ghostwire: Tokyo is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC for $59.99 with “The Spider’s Web” DLC free with the purchase of the main game.
