Thunderful Games has announced today the latest game in the SteamWorld franchise: SteamWorld Build. This follows up from a previous cryptic announcement made last week on the SteamWorld YouTube channel that used morse code to hint at an upcoming announcement.

The SteamWorld franchise has received acclaim for its bold creative decision to have a variety of gaming genres set in the same steampunk universe under the umbrella SteamWorld title. SteamWorld Build will be a city builder and a strategy game called a cross between “SimCity and Dungeon Keeper,” where the player works to collect resources and improve their town in order to escape their dying planet. According to its Steam description, players will “meet the ever-growing needs of your citizens, trade resources and defend your mine from the creatures that lurk below.” The game promises five distinct SteamWorld maps filled with secrets and adventure and three varying difficulty levels as the player builds up and manages their own unique mining town.
SteamWorld Build will release sometime in 2023 for the Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC gaming platforms. A free-to-play demo has already been released onto Steam for players to be able to get a feel for the game, and Thunderful has also launched a massive Steam sale on all SteamWorld games, with the prices of some titles being slashed by up to 85%.
SteamWorld Build is not the only upcoming SteamWorld title for fans to look forwards to, however: SteamWorld HeadHunter, a co-op third-person action-adventure game was announced back in November 2021 and should also release sometime within the next year. Creative Director for the SteamWorld franchise Brjann Sigurgeirsson also announced today that the SteamWorld team is currently working on four different SteamWorld titles, so there will likely be plenty of news to come out Thunderful as the year progresses.
