Early Monday morning on January 16, SteamWorld Games uploaded a ten second video teasing a possible game announcement. The video was uploaded to their YouTube channel and displayed what appeared to be a digital sheet of parchment paper with words typed out across the screen in Morse code. When translated, the words stated: “January 18th.”

The cryptic video is thought to be an announcement for a possible game announcement or update coming this Wednesday, January 18th. Fans speculate that the teaser could be a possible update for the upcoming SteamWorld Headhunter, a co-op third person action adventure title that would the franchises’ first in 3D animation. The title was announced back on November 10, 2021, and SteamWorld Games has gave few updates since the title’s initial reveal. However, with SteamWorld Games stating in 2021 that several SteamWorld games had entered development, the teaser could also possibly be for a brand new unannounced entry into the SteamWorld franchise.

The SteamWorld franchise, developed by Swedish video game developer Image & Form, depicts the adventures of steam-driven robots in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world. The franchise has included a variety of titles under different genres, with SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful of Dirt and SteamWorld Dig 2 in particular being critically acclaimed and popular action-adventure platformers. The most recent entry to the franchise was SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, a role-playing and deck building game published in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and PC platforms.
