Rockstar’s enhanced re-release of Grand Theft Auto V for the PC has gotten rave reviews, and barely over a day of its release, a few mods have begun cropping up.

One such mod, created by a user named Falandorn, allows support for the Oculus Rift, which suits the game’s new first-person perspective quite nicely. Rockstar have not officially added support for the virtual reality headset to GTA V, but this mod seems to the job quite adequately. Falandorn achieved this functionality using vorpX, a program that adds VR support to existing games.

Given that its still in its early stages, the Oculus Rift mod only allows for basic head movements, and not more extended movements like leaning forwards and backwards. The result, at any rate, makes the experience of gallivanting around Los Santos so realistic that the only way for it to become more immersive is to fly yourself to Los Angeles and, to quote Bill O’Reilly, do it live.

Another mod that has cropped up adjusts the first person perspective’s field of vision. As it currently is, GTA V‘s FPS mode can sometimes seem a little claustrophobic, so this mod should be welcome to some. The FOV adjustments only take effect when on foot; it does not work when driving in first-person.

As PC Gamer points out, the mod’s functionality in GTA V’s online mode, GTA Online, could mean that users with it could get banned for modifying the game’s files. Considering that a larger FOV allows for players to see more on their screens, the mod could also be construed as cheating just based on that. Cautious players should keep up with the mod’s progress on this Reddit thread.
