2022 has been a troubled year for Star Wars fans. The Knights of the Old Republic remake has been through incident after incident, with this latest story potentially pushing another roadblock in front of the game development. On August 22, 2022 it was revealed that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake would change development studios from from Aspyr Media to one of Saber Interactive eastern European studios.
The remake made waves during its first announcement during a Sony showcase last summer. With the remake being made by Aspyr Media, the developers for the original game, fans were hopeful that this game would be in good hands. Unfortunately, its sudden pause in July has fans worried if the project will ever see the light of day and this recent studio change doesn’t help things.
Scoop: The highly anticipated Star Wars KOTOR remake has been moved from Texas-based Aspyr Media to a Saber Interactive studio in Eastern Europe.
Parent company Embracer hinted at the transition last week, and Bloomberg News can confirm it today: https://t.co/eK3W9RILHN

According to Bloomberg, there had been rumors of the developer change but nothing was confirmed until its parent organization Embracer Group’s earnings report last week hinting at Saber taking over of the project. Outside of the studio change, Embracer Group has been going through numerous IP and studio acquisitions recently, pushing the idea of developing high quality products. The Knights of the Old Republic remake was paused because the higher ups were dissatisfied with the progress seen in the demo Aspyr Media had prepared. So when it was mentioned that one of the Empracer Group’s AAA projects would be switching to another studio to “…ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title,” there wasn’t much leap in logic for fans to figure out what game they might be talking about.
Its still unknown when the remake will resume development, but with the recent studio change, hopefully fans should get an answer sometime before the years end.
