Resident Evil 7 comes out in just a few short weeks, returning the series to its creepy, survival horror roots. The game’s popular demo has just been released for the PC, which inevitably lead to a ton of leaks courtesy of data miners cracking the demo for all its secrets. To be fair, Capcom did try to lock up all their info and they actually spent a much longer time removing all the late game secrets from the demo. Even though it did take longer than usual to get every bit of information, users eventually discovered they could just open the executable for the game using a hex editor, uncovering a ton of text filled with information. This treasure trove of information comes from a NeoGaf thread and has made its way across Reddit and the rest of the internet in waves. These leaks include weapons, number of chapters in the game (Spoiler Alert! Not that many), and the contents of the first round of DLC. From this point on, readers should beware of spoilers.
The first major leak is the list of usable items and weapons in the game. These matchup with some minor spoilers that were revealed from the ESRB’s rating of the game a few months back. That rating mentioned various weapons such as pistols, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws, all of which have been confirmed by the leak. The ESRB rating also mentioned some other details such as a characters arm being dismembered by a chainsaw, a man’s leg being taken off a the knee by a shovel, and a character being impaled through the face with a shovel. Shovels seem to be very versatile in this game.
To that list of ways characters can be murdered, the new leaks add scissors, a knife, shotgun, handgun, grenade launcher, a time bomb, a circular saw and even a wood chipper, all of which can be used against the games enemies.
Data miners also uncovered the full contents of the game’s first DLC, which will be coming in four separate chapters. The first chapter will feature puzzle-focused gameplay in which players will have to solve riddles and other puzzles. The second will add a playable card game which will feature in-game rewards. The third chapter adds a wave-based survival mode that can be played on several maps with ten waves for each one. Data miners also uncovered clues that suggest there will be multiplayer, even though its already been confirmed that the game is single-player only. This could mean that when the survival mode DLC is released, it will include co-op, which would be a very welcome addition to the series. The final chapter will be more story-focused, with the player being trapped somewhere with Lucas, the family member who loses his arm during the Dinner trailer. This chapter will feature multiple endings determined by the players actions.
If you were wondering how long Resident Evil 7 would be, the information released reveals that it might be surprisingly short. Its only got a handful of chapters, with each one focusing on a different area of the mansion, much like the original Resident Evil. The chapters will mainly consist of encounters with the Baker family (the family from the trailer) with encounters spanning multiple stages and locations. For example, one encounter changes as one character gets equipped with gradually more powerful weapons.
Of course, these aren’t all the details that were spoiled in the game. If readers wish to get spoiled on details such as boss fights, multiple endings, and even a major reveal of the game’s final boss, here’s a link to a NeoGaf thread with all the information. For everyone else, you’ll have to wait till you get your hands on a copy of the game. Resident Evil 7 comes out January 24th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
