While you probably have never heard of it, Vainglory has carved a small niche for itself in in the esports market. To mark the anniversary of its esports start, developer Super Evil Megacorp announced the very first Vainglory World Championship. This will coincide with the Autumn Season of the competitive scene. The event will be held in Hollywood, Los Angeles at the legendary ICL Chinese Theatre.
The Autumn Season begins with Patch 1.22, launched just a few days ago. The new season will feature a brand new Season Chest, seasonal skins, and an updated Daily Chests. Also on the menu is a “festive Autumn game map, a new hero, new skins.” To be more specific, here are the details that were given by Super Evil within the post:
- New hero: Baron, a soldier with incredible range and explosive power!
- New skins: Moon Princess Celeste, Dear Diary Lyra, Netherknight Lance
New Season Chest containing instant skin unlocks & more!
Vainglory has been gaining speed on mobile devices at a rapid pace. The mobile controls have gotten a rework, placing the items on your left underneath your thumb for added control and precision. Being able to communicate to your team members and see what’s ailing you is mighty important in the MOBA genre. The location of buffs and social pings have been moved for better visibility.
The developers will be at TwitchCon in San Diego this year in order to showcase their Vainglory Content Creator Program. The technology enables content creators from Twitch and YouTube to make use of improved in-game visibility, social media and customized prizes for their views. It is a cool feature that makes it simpler for the game to be watched–obviously very important for an esports game.
At the World Championship, twelve teams will compete for the grand prize, which has not been determined. Vainglory is also offering college students an opportunity to earn scholarship money through their Collegiate Starleague, or CSL. This program will launch in October, marking the first time a mobile esports game to host a season within the CSL. The tournament is currently open to all college/university students in North America. If you are interested, you can find more information on the Starleague website.
